Giriama Community Set To Be The Limelight Of The Mijikenda Grouping In The Current Kenyan Government

The Mijikenda grouping consists of nine sub- groups from the coastal region of Kenya with almost same dialect. The Digo, Giriama, Duruma, Chonyi, Ribe, Jibana, Kauma, Rabai and Kambe are what this Coastal grouping entails.

With the current political trends and leadership from the coastal region and Kenya at large, the Giriama community politicians are emerging as leaders of various political seats and Cabinet Secretaries as well.

Regardless of several other groups of communities being in Kilifi County, the Giriamas have currently dominated the political seats starting from the governor Gideon Mung'aro.

The former Lands Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) outweighed his stiff competitor Aisha Jumwa (Giriama) to become the Kilifi County boss.

Aisha Jumwa Katana, the former Malindi member of Parliament is among the Cabinet Secretaries nominees read last week by President William Samoei Ruto and if she will be proven innocent in the ongoing murder case charged against her, then it's automatic that she will be the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.

With Kilifi County having a total of thirty five (35) wards, sixteen of them are from the Giriama nation, and above all, they managed to produce the speaker to the county assembly, Honourable Teddy Mwambire Ngumbao a representative of Sokoke Ward and the former Member of Parliament for Ganze Constituency.

Honourable Owen Baya(Giriama), Kilifi North MP who recently retained his seat under the President's UDA ticket has been advocated for the post of deputy majority leader in the National Assembly under the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.

Another prominent leader from the Giriama community is the the Kilifi County former Governor, Honourable Amason Jeffer Kingi, the party leader of Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) Party.

Kingi ditched Odinga's Azimio team for Ruto's Kenya Kwanza,a step that has currently earned him the Senate Speaker position, the first one ever from the Coast region.

The above are some of the notable Mijikenda leaders currently holding notable posts in the Kenyan government.

Is the Giriama community gaining it from Mekatilili wa Menza? What are your thoughts about this?
