Blow To MCAs As KRA Demands Tax From Uhuru Car Grant Offer

Members of the county Assemblies are facing another hurdle as the Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA) demands atleast 30% Tax from the car grant offered by president Uhuru Kenyatta.

President Uhuru had earlier granted a 4.5 billion Kenyan shillings car grant to MCAs during his central Kenya tour that was held at Sagana Lodge.

The Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC) director Lyn Mengich had already approved the presidential directive a few weeks ago.

The Controller of budget Margaret Nyakang'o had earlier raised a red flag on releasing funds for MCAs car grants claiming that the presidential order was not supported by the law.

It is not clear whether the grant offer will need a parliamentary approval before the money is credited to MCAs accounts.

Kenyans are outraged at the move by the government of giving more money to political leaders when the rest of the population is in a crisis.

Unemployment figures keep going up each day due to covid19 negative impacts.
