President William Ruto has named former KTN journalist Michael Gitonga as the new Secretary of State Functions.
Prior to his appointment, he worked as the Director of Communication in the First Lady's office. Mr Gitonga took to social media to express his joy at his appointment, thanking the president for entrusting him with the position.
"A new year brings fresh starts. "I thank God first and foremost." "I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Kenya's President, William Ruto, for the opportunity to serve as Secretary of State Functions," he said.
The former KTN host also thanked the First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto, for her leadership, guidance, and "invaluable" support, which has allowed him to advance from journalist to government mouthpiece.
Mr Gitonga worked at the Standard Group-owned TV station as a news anchor and morning show host. Mr. Gitonga earned a degree in electrical engineering from Nottingham University in the United Kingdom.
