Ever since Governor Joseph Ole Lenku took over from his predecessor in 2017, the Kajiado ship has been leaking and it almost sank due to the stormy weather in the high political seas. The incumbent has been finding it hard to do his work in a perfect manner and now that his first term is coming to an end, will he retain his seat in the coming elections?
A number of politicians are salivating for his seat as the aroma is too sweet to ignore and if Ole Lenku won't put his house in order then this might be his final term in power. Some of these politicians eyeing the seat are; The incumbent gov. Ole Lenku, David Nkedienye, Hon Peris Tobiko, Hon. Katoo Ole Metito, Francis Mejja among others.
With his rivals accusing him of not delivering his promises to the people of Kajiado, Ole Lenku has found himself in a tight corner and he is currently rushing to complete stalled projects. However, one advantage is that the incumbent supports Azimio la Umoja, and he is also a Jubilee member which might give him mileage compared to his competitors. Kajiado is a cosmopolitan county and in this region, party politics and game of numbers matter a lot and currently, Azimio is carrying the day.
Though UDA and the hustler brigade have made inroads and those seeking UDA tickets are many, Ole Lenku might just sneak in the middle to retain his seat if UDA's disgruntled members decide to split the votes if the nominations are not free and fair. Nevertheless, the return of former governor Nkedienye has just complicated matters for gov. Ole Lenku and he will need to work extra hard to retain the seat. All in all, it's up to the Kajiado people to decide who will be the next county boss come August this year.
