Juliana Cherera finally resigns from office

Juliana Cherera was the vice chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission before she announced here resignation on 5 th December 2022.

This follows a few days after President of the Republic of Kenya William Samoei Ruto gazetted a tribunal to probe four suspended commissioner and among them Juliana Cherera.

The four commissioners held a press at Serena Hotel Nairobi minutes before the August 2022 presidential results were released by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati. The four states that they fail to own the results to be released since they felt that a few things were done privately to favor one contestant.

This announcement lead to disagreements between the whole electeral body. The results were disputed and the matter taken to court for IEBC to explain why a group differed with the results. The court then found the commission fair and uphold the results stating William Ruto as the president elect and finally sworn in.

It was not until early November when a motion was presented to parliament concerning the four commissioners.
