Deputy President William Ruto's running mate Rigathi Gachagua has criticized the media for claiming that the August presidential race is between him and the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance's deputy presidential nominee, Martha Karua.
Speaking in Rongai, Nakuru County on Sunday during the Kenya Kwanza Alliance rally, Gachagua said that the race is between Ruto and the ODM party leader Raila Odinga, and thus the claim of Karua versus him is a strategy to woo Mt Kenya Residents in to voting for Raila but it will be very hard.
The Mathira MP noted that Karua's nomination as Raila's DP will not make the Mt Kenya Region rally behind Raila's bid, since they have already decided that they are behind Ruto, the UDA party and the Kenya Kwanza Team.
"The race is not between Gachagua and Karua, it is between Ruto and Raila, choosing our sister will not make us forget who we will battling out with come August" said Gachagua in Nakuru.
His reports comes at a time when several political analysts have argued that Karua is a big asset to Raila's bid, and it is likely that she will boost Raila's chances of winning the August presidential race by not only consolidating Mt Kenya votes but also the women vote across the country.
