Politician Dies In Kenyatta University Hospital Days After Uhuru's Warning

Hon. Eliud Ngugi Ngigi (Thithia), MCA for Muguga Ward in Kabete Sub County Kiambu county is dead.

The legislator passed on Tuesday, March 16 due to Covid-19 related complications while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta University Hospital, Nairobi.

Kenya has been witnessing a spike in coronavirus cases since the beginning of the year, forcing president Uhuru to reintroduce the 10pm to 4am curfew to slow down infections.President Uhuru Kenyatta admitted that there have been discussions on the best measures to take in the wake of the increasing number of infections and deaths from the virus. Among the options the president said the government has been battling with is to ban political rallies and gatherings exceeding 100 people as they did when the first cases of the virus were reported.

Kenya has so far reported 111,935 positive cases and 1,901 deaths in total, registered 829 new infections on Thursday, the highest daily number since December.

Kenyatta said the positive test rate hit 13% in March compared to January's 2%.

Kenya plans to vaccinate 1.25 million people by June and another 9.6 million in the next phase. [nL5N2L31VA]
