Ex-Youngest MP Who Ditched Raila For Uhuru Now At Crossroads

At just the age of 26 years, Silvance Osele was elected to Parliament in what was his first attempt in elective politics. At the time, the Kabondo Kasipul MP became the youngest legislator in the country.

When he won the MP seat, Osele had ridden on the ODM party wave in the region to springboard his political ambitions. But once in office,he crossed paths with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. This would haunt him during the 2017 general election.

Once allied to former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, who founded "Kalausi" movement to rival Raila in Nyanza, Osele ended up becoming one of the biggest casualties of open defiance to the man who is the de facto Nyanza region kingpin.

And so, in 2017, he was sent home by angry voters as he lost the seat to Eve Obara. But at the time, he campaigned for the then President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid. That's how he was given a soft landing as he was appointed as director of the presidential delivery unit.

But with Uhuru's exit, the former MP is left in an awkward political position. Having opted not to run for any elective position during the August 9 general, he is one of the many politicians who risk disappearing into oblivion.

Recently, when President William Ruto visited Homa Bay, Osele is among those who had accompanied the Head of State. Is he on the move to the UDA party? If so, his fate in Nyanza region politics could be sealed.
