David Ochieng Becoming Raila's Biggest Threat In Nyanza

The Ugenya MP David Ochieng has consistently flouted Nyanza's political hierarchy. He created the Movement for Democracy and Growth party in order to compete with ODM, and in 2018 it won a by-election. Ochieng supported the Azimio leader's quest for president in 2022 in an effort to avoid getting along with the former prime minister and leader of the region's political establishment, Raila Odinga.

One of the various groups that made up the Azimio la Umoja coalition was his MDG party. And this ruse paid out for him, as he defeated an ODM party candidate to win a third term in office. Before the results of his re-election as Ugenya MP could be finalized on Friday, Ochieng pulled a surprise by abandoning Raila and joining President-elect William Ruto's team.

Has Ochieng set himself up to challenge Raila's domination of politics in the Nyanza area after twice winning the MP seat in his native county without necessarily running for ODM?. Ochieng's decision to join the Ruto camp may be seen as a political statement in certain ways since he is the first man to leave the Raila camp since the general election on August 9. Additionally, the leader of the ODM party has every right to be concerned.
