Young Kenyans are Not Ready to Take Charge of their Future

The IEBC is currently conducting a nationwide voter registration.The exercise begun on 4th October 2021 and its a 30-day exercise.A majority of the Youth who finished High School between 2017 and 2020 are expected to exercise their democratic right by voting in the 2022 General elections.

A huge number of these young Kenyans are in University and are currently still in school.Needless to say, most of these University students do not see the need of registering as a voter in Kenya.

I managed to talk to a few students from Kabarak university and these is what they had to say;

"I honestly don't feel the need for voting if we already know who is going to win the next election" says Victoria Kitili

"I am currently studying Bachelor of Business and Information Technology with no hope of finding a job when am done with school,I don't think voting is going to help me at all" sentiments from Obura Keith

"I am not voting because it seems all of next year's results are already predetermined so what's the point of registering as a voter?"said Sharon Cherop.

All the others I talked to had the same sentiments and are not ready to vote come next year's General Elections.

IEBC needs to prioritize voter sensitization because all Kenyans need to exercise their democratic right whether old or young.It is sad to see young people not see the need to decide their own future.
