Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has today 13th Jan, 2023 held talks with M23 Rebels in mombasa. Uhuru is the lead East Africa Community facilitator of peaceful talks towards ending the rivalry in DRC Congo.
The Kenyas fourth president, through his official social media platforms stated that the leaders of the M-23 had agreed to peacefully withdraw ceasefire in the country.
"In a demonstration of goodwill and the willingness to work towards the settlement of the situation in North Kivu, the leaders of the M-23 agreed to continue with an orderly withdrawal and to adhere to a strict ceasefire," read Uhurus statement.
The DRC has had internal conflicts for over the years. Now, a ray of hope has been seen after the rebels agreed to work with the authority to ensure peace returns in the country.
"It was also agreed that the withdrawal process would continue to be verified by both the East African Regional Force and ICGLR Verification Mechanism to ensure the safety and swift return of all the displaced citizens and refugees to their homes" further read the statement
