Even though Mount Kenya region is likely not to have an influential presidential candidate for the coming 2022 general elections, there are a number of top leaders from the region who could determine where the region will direct their support.
One of such leaders is the former Meru county governor who is the current Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Hon. Peter Munya. Munya was the pioneer governor for Meru county and lost to the incumbent, Karaitu Murungi of Jubilee party in the 2017 general elections.
Peter Munya alongside other top leaders like the former Kiambu governor William Kabogo and Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru have been at the forefront in making sure that the mountain region is united ahead of the 2022 general elections.
They have been moving in different parts of Mount Kenya region with latest meeting held in Meru county which brought dozens of political leaders drawn from all the counties in the region to strategize their 2022 plans.
The thousands of votes he got in the 2017 Meru county gubernatorial race is a clear sign that people have a lot of trust in him and could follow his direction in the 2022 general elections.
Munya who used the Party of National Unity (PNU) as his political vehicle in the 2017 general elections is rumoured to be having a plan of reviving the party to have a major comeback in the 2022 general elections.
He has also been at the forefront in warning the Mount Kenya region people to be careful with the presidential candidates coming to seek their 2022 support adding that majority of them will dump them after achieving their ambitions. This means that any presidential candidate who associates himself/herself with Hon. Peter Munya could earn a lot from the vote rich Mount Kenya region in 2022 polls.
