As much as the Odm party chief Raila Odinga has toured the mountain in his "Azimio la umoja" campaign, I strongly believe that he still needs his former close allies so as to defeat his counterpart William Ruto in the presidential race in 2022.
After following closely on the Mount Kenya Foundation meeting held on Thursday 7th 2021 here in Nairobi with the OKA leaders all invited, I stand to be corrected when I say that the 2022 presidential race will be tight only if Raila Odinga reunites with his former Nasa Principals.
One of the messages that were clear from the meeting directed to the OKA leaders is that they all have a chance of getting the support of the mountain just as Raila Odinga. But William Ruto has been on the ground dealing with the voters directly without passing through their leaders.
Also, basing on the recent statistics of the prospective registered voters in 2022, William Ruto has an upper hand with 6.4 million voters in rift valley.
If Ruto manages to get 98% votes from Rift valley and 50% votes from all the other regions in the country including Coast, Western, Central, Nairobi, North, Central and South Eastern parts of the country, then Raila Odinga will have a hard time to defeat him (Ruto) without OKA leaders on his side.
