"I Will Not Control the Judiciary" Matha Karua Defends Herself On the Roles of Justice Minister

Azimio la Umoja deputy President nominee Martha Karua has defended the legality and functions of the Justice docket reserved for her by Raila Odinga in the event they form government.

When challenged during a live interview in Karen on the legal basis of a deputy President serving as justice minister, Karua argued that she is only a presidents principal assistant and can also take up other roles as assigned by the boss.

She also maintained that her roles will no be to undermine the Judiciary but to ensure speedy justice process like any other appointee for the role could do.

Karua therefore said that it is a wrong misconception that a serving deputy President cannot hold a cabinet portfolio.

"A deputy president is basically the principal assistant of the president and performs other duties assigned by the boss, which may include holding a ministerial docket. Misconception about DP holding the Justice ministry is wrong." Martha Karua said.
