Nyanza region gets the first female governor.

It is a new dawn in Nyanza as Gladys Wanga emerges the winner in the just concluded homabay gubernatorial elections.

This means for the first time since devolution begun,Nyanza is getting the first female governor.

Ms Gladys Wanga garnered a total of 244,559 votes against Evance Kidero's 154,182 votes. Mr. Mark Rabudi of United Democratic Alliance followed from a distance with 1,244 votes.

The governor Elect honourable Gladys Wanga thanked the residents of Homabay county for believing in her and electing her into the prestigious position.

Her path to victory was however not a very smooth one.

After receiving the ODM certificate, the outgoing county women member of the national assembly was tasked with the role of campaigning for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party in the country.

She together with Charity Ngilu headed the women's campaign team in the coalition.

However the tough competition Dr. Evance Kidero posed in homabay prevented her for campaigning for Azimio outside the county!
