Azimio to Boycott 2027 Election

Azimio la Umoja has warned that the removal of four dissenting Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners might have catastrophic consequences, including a boycott of the 2027 General Election.

On November 26, the coalition's spokesperson, Makau Mutua, revealed the proposal. The commission members Irine Masit, Justus Nyangaya, and Francis Wanderi, as well as vice chair Juliana Cherera, were charged with seeking to thwart the decision of the people.

Mutua, however, emphasized that the four were sought after to make amends since Ruto intends to take over the IEBC before 2027.

Makau made a statement via his social media accounts that UDA needs to be aware that the 2027 polls and any by-elections won't be held if the IEBC four are fired and replaced in Parliament or without. Period.

Earlier sources said that Raila was concerned about Ruto's administration influencing the 2027 General Election and making it chaotic. Azimio considered requesting a new round of street demonstrations to pressure the government.

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio, requested on Thursday, November 24, that the four IEBC commissioners who disagreed with the outcome of the presidential election on August 9 abstain from appearing before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC). Odinga referred to the difficulties as a witch hunt by the ruling government at the time.
