Former Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer Mr Wilson Shollei has finally been freed from prison.

Mr Shollei was serving a 7-year jail term after being found guilty of abuse of abuse of office and willful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement when he and James Oswago, former IEBC CEO procured electronic voter identification devices for the 2013 March 4 General Elections.
Mr Shollei was freed after paying the fine of Ksh 7.5 million imposed on him by the Anti-Corruption Court. The scandal he was charged with was equivalent to Ksh 1.3 billion.
This came days after Mr Shollei was was back then aggrieved by the conviction had filed an application before High Court Judge Esther Maina seeking an appeal. Following his decision to finally accept to pay the fine, Mr Shollei decided to request the Court to withdraw the application and allow him to amend the appeal challenging the conviction and sentence.
