Wafula Chebukati Makes Another Move A Day After Declaring DP Ruto President-elect

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Mr. Wafula Chebukati has made another move just a day after declaring Deputy President William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua as the President-elect and deputy president-elect respectively. The IEBC Chairman has been the talk of every Kenyan and his fellow commissioners after yesterday's announcement.

He has officially gazetted the two as the president and deputy President-elect in today's newspapers. This follows William Ruto's supposed victory by almost 7.1 million votes over his closest rival the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga who allegedly garnered 6.9 million votes in a closely contested race.

Four of the seven IEBC commissioners led by the Vice chairman Juliana Cherera have however refuted the results. The four commissioners have termed the move by Wafula Chebukati unconstitutional since they were not consulted. They have also cited a mathematical error in the calculations of the presidential results.

However, William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua are already facing challenges in their purported victory after the coalition held a press conference rejecting the presidential election results.

Without the Supreme Court case, William Ruto would have gone down in history as the most successful presidential candidate in Kenya to run for president in just one election. This is unlike all other presidents who have served in the nation and made several attempts before assuming the top state office.
