IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati Clears The Air on Deep State Controlling Elections, Shares Good News

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chair Wafula Chebukati has weighed in on reports of "Deep State" Controlling Presidential Elections in Kenya.

Deep State in Kenya is regarded as a group of influential people in government who influence major decision making in government.

According to a media report by Emoo FM, the IEBC chair has said the existence of the Deep State is no issue given that the electoral body has set out an elaborate plan to ensure the next General Elections is free and fair.

“It matters not whether 'deep state' and 'system' exists or not. We have a robust Elections Operation Plan. We will conduct the elections in a free, fair, transparent and credible manner..." - IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati said.

The developments come a day after Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia revealed that it is true that deep state exists and they truly influence elections.

He said that in an electoral contest, especially where major competitors are sharing about 50-50 per cent of the majority votes, whoever Deep State endorses for the sear will be the ultimate winner.
