Ruto is known to give out cash as if he draws from a bottomless pit. He has given money to churches, women, youth and also some sick people. However, many people have criticized him claiming that these funds are the proceeds of corruption.
These criticisms have not deterred him from issuing free money whenever an opportunity presents itself. Today, the Deputy President has been campaigning in Meru county which is part of Mt. Kenya. The meeting was attended by a huge crowd as usual.
While campaigning a group of youths were lifting a wheelbarrow. The wheelbarrow was yellow in colour and was branded UDA. Unfortunately, it looked as if it was quickly welded together using only some metal frames and a small wheel. The DP upon seeing the wheelbarrow pitied the men and gave them Ksh 20,000 to go and install a bigger wheel.
This is according to a report by TV47 Kenya that read, "The DP told a supporter in Meru County to take this Ksh 20,000 and fix a bigger wheel to your wheelbarrow so that it may take Odinga home."
Ruto is fond of calling Raila nicknames. Raila has however, warned him against calling him such nicknames which are demeaning.
Its not clear who the real owner of the wheelbarrow was since it was being hoisted up by very different people. The money may not have even reached the real owner of the wheelbarrow. Another thing which is not probably surprising is that Ruto carries huge sums of money with him as he campaigns. Since his expenses are being catered for by the government, it seems that such funds are mostly used for dishing out to his supporters.
