Ahmed Ali Muktar has been sworn-in as the governor of Wajir County. He has assumed office after Mohamed Abdi Mohamud was impeached by the MCAs,where 37 voted to remove him while 10 opposed the motion. Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka notified the public of Mohamud’s removal from office on grounds of gross violation of the Constitution.The Governor’s impeachment trial was held by an 11-member Committee chaired by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni. Despite not being absolved from abused of power and gross misconduct, the governor was found guilty of contravening the County Government Act 2012, the Public Procurement and Disposal Act 2015 and the Public Finance Management Act 2012.
In a special sitting held on May 17, 25 Senators supported the motion, 2were against it while four abstained.
