National assembly to pour water on Senate fund establishment

On September 29th, 2022 president Ruto legally opened up the 13th parliament in parliament building, Nairobi. At the same time, President Ruto made an inaugural speech on behalf of both houses.

In his inaugural speech, President Ruto said that Senators should be assigned some amount of money to facilitate their daily activities while serving their constituents.

From the recent reports reaching the media houses, members of national assembly (MPs) are set to oppose the motion seeking to set aside some amount of public funds to Senators.

According to MPs, senators are not constitutionally tasked to carry out any government project. The jurisdiction of the senators is to provide oversight to all activities of the executive arm of government and also lobby for additional funds to their counties.

Senators, especially from Kenya Kwanza Alliance, have beseech president Ruto to give them something since some of their constituents rely on them to assist them in one or two things when they can not access assistance from the area MP.
