Huge Relief For Impeached Politicians as IEBC CEO Chebukati Make Major Move To Save Their Careers

Barely a month ago, the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji challenged Kenyans to vote for people with integrity in the August 9 poll.

Haji said that politicians who have been impeached do not have both moral and legal standing to be elected unless they are cleared by the court.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission CEO Wafula Chebukati is now seeking to save the political careers of impeached leaders.

Speaking during an event, Chebukati proposed that Parliament should consider formulating a law that allows ousted county bosses to vie for political office years after ten years.

If it succeeds, the impeached politicians will be allowed to make political comebacks after the suspension period ends.

Chebukati further disclosed that disqualified contestants will not have their names on the ballot in the coming elections.

This comes after IEBC has instructed returning officers not to clear such candidates unless a court order compels them to process their nomination papers.
