As the upcoming by-election for Matungu Constituency draws nearer, campaigns have been intensifying in order to win the few undecided voters. 4th of March is the date slated for this election which was as a result of the death of Hon. Justus Murunga in November 2020.
Political bigwigs have now joined the campaign trail as it gets to the homestretch. One party leader who made a trip to Matungu was ODM party leader Hon. Raila Odinga. He was there to drum up support for his party’s candidate for this seat Mr. David Were.
Among those in attendance at this event was Kakamega governor Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya who is also the deputy party leader for ODM. They all called upon Matungu residents to cast their ballot in favour of Mr. Were as their preferred choice for Member of Parliament.
Thousands of people turned up for this political rally. Hon. Odinga expressed his gratitude to the people of Matungu for the show of love they have given him and the ODM party as a whole. He urged them to maintain unity as he assured them that they would reap big benefits from their support.
The race for this seat has drawn interest from several top political outfits. This will see Mr. David Were contest against Mr. Alex Lanya of UDA and Mr. Peter Nabulindo of ANC among other candidates. Deputy President William Ruto and ANC's Musalia Mudavadi have also been to the constituency to campaign for their respective party candidates.
