Nyeri: MP Kanini Kega Will Not Be Re-elected In 2022 For Supporting Raila, Poll Shows

Kieni Member of Parliament James Mathenge alias Kanini Kega would not be reelected in 2022 general election after he opted to support former prime minister Raila Odinga's presidential ambitions, latest opinion polls have revealed.

In the polls done recently by Mizani Africa, which is a reputable research organization in Kenya, majority of the Kieni constituents would support someone else for the seat and not Kanini Kega.

According to the opinion poll, a whopping 66.7% of those sampled from local residents alleged that they would not vote for their incumbent legislature in next year's election. The reason why they would not reelect him is because of his latest association with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chief.

In their observation, they subscribe the Hustler Nation narrative advanced by deputy president Dr William Ruto.

However, 33.3% of the sampled locals have averred that they would reelect the lawmaker because of his track record in the constituency.

This is a big blow to Kanini Kega and to a larger extent, Raila because they were relying on the support of the majority in order to realize their respective leadership dreams. This implies that the dreams will, after all, unlikely to come true.

The vocal Kieni MP has been an adherent of Kieleweke faction of the ruling party Jubilee since 2018. This was the stint when handshake between president Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila started off and gained popularity. He has been in the company of his Nyeri Town counterpart Ngunjiri Wambugu, Maina Kamanda (nominated), Sabina Chege (Murang'a Women Representative) among others.
