Inspector General of Police nominee Eng. Japhet Koome has said that he has a net worth of Sh89.9 million.

While appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Affairs, he attributed his net worth to his two plots in Kitengela and 37 hectares in his rural home.
Koome also mentioned savings in Sacco, motor vehicles and two tractors.
He told the vetting panel that he has all the time to work as if approved for the job.
Ruto, while naming his cabinet, had promised to reveal his nominee for the position after Hillary Mutyambai proceeded on terminal leave due to health issues.

Koome is a former Nairobi County Police Commander and was serving as the Commandant of the National Police Service College in Kiganjo.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow has been the acting IG after Mutyambai picked him to perform his duties
