The always active Kirinyaga county is once again in the political spotlight as the upcoming 9th August general elections take over the entire country's atmosphere. This time around, Kirinyaga is playing host to a fierce gubernatorial contest as incumbent governor Anne Waiguru takes on area women representative aspirant Purity Wangui Ngirici who has vowed to kick her out of the throne.

The controversial governor won the seat in the last general polls with a landslide despite all the political showdowns surrounding her life. Ms Waiguru who rose to power and popularity while serving as a Cabinet Secretary for Devolution had hit the headlines after being implicated in a huge NYS corruption scandal which ugly forced her out before declaring to contest for governorship. Her five years in governorship have seen her propel her to one of the influential politicians in the larger Mt Kenya region.

On her side, Ms Ngirici who first got elected to parliament in 2017 has been using the opportunity to break barriers and grow powerful wings which saw her shine in the national politics before ditching Deputy President William Ruto's UDA party. The lawmaker retreated to Kirinyaga and signed up for the huge contest on an independent party ticket against her main rival who is defending her seat at Ruto's UDA party.

The last couple of weeks has completely turned the county into a battlefield with glittering political fireworks as the two ladies spoil for the duel. Heavy guzzlers, endless trains and loud campaign trails are now the order of the day across the country as the heavyweights traverse the entire county with big goodies and promise to woo the voters.

For instance governor, Anne Waiguru on Monday took her campaigns to the vote-rich Kirinyaga Central constituency as Madam Purity Ngirici who has been very active on her Social Media Platforms kept her Monday activities low-key.
