Opinion: Election Week in Uganda, This is What To Expect

Ugandans will be holding elections this week on Thursday the 14 January 2021 to elect leaders who will lead them in the next five years.

The current President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is seeking the sixth term as president of Uganda. Museveni, is a beneficiary of amendments on term and age limits.

During his Campaigns, he has urged people to vote for him as he is going to secure them. He went on to say that Uganda is only safe when it is in his hands. Do you think so?

President Museveni has been using police and army to humiliate and brutalise the opposition presidential aspirants during their Campaigns. An act which has been condemned by leaders across the globe. Even the human rights organizations in Uganda had written to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the President over violation of human rights.

On the other hand, 38-year-old musician Bobi Wine has mounted a campaign against Museveni. Bobi Wine has continued to protest against police harassment and brutality. His main agenda is to remove the dictator and make Uganda a free country.

The hot race is between the two, but the total presidential aspirants are eleven. Ugandans are urged to vote wisely and peacefully come Thursday.
