Governor of Kirinyaga, Anne Waiguru, announced that there were plans to hold elections at the Kianyaga vote counting center.
In a tweet, Waiguru stated that two ballot boxes were brought to the counting center through the back door. She asked IEBC to stop the counting of votes and asked for the said ballot boxes to be removed.
“Do it during the day - Two ballot boxes with the governor's ballots enter Kianyaga through the back door in broad daylight! They MUST be cleared and counting must stop! @IEBCKenya,” said Waiguru.
Waiguru's main competitor in the gubernatorial Kirinyaga race with Purity Ngrici, who won the independent ticket after a failed UDA incident was orchestrated by Waiguru's team joining. Jubilee's Charles Kibiru also participated but was defeated early before the final results were announced.
"I take this first opportunity to accept and respect the choice of the voters of Kirinyaga regarding the recently concluded cassation election, where I am a candidate.
I would like to thank all the supporters. for me, the electoral team, my friends, my Companion, Hon. Peter Ndambiri and my family have supported you throughout the election.
God bless our great Kirinyaga county and its people,” Kibiru shared on his page. primary results indicate that Waiguru is leading and Ngrici is close behind.
