Mike Sonko Whisked To Safety In Mombasa After Clashing With Hassan Joho

This evening in Mombasa, a confrontation between Mike Sonko and Hassan Joho, the governor of Mombasa County, led to a dramatic turn of events.

Mike Sonko had no choice but to be taken into protective custody by the authorities. Later on, Mike Sonko asserted that there were conspiracies to manipulate the election results.

At the end of the previous month, Sonko joined DP Ruto's camp and urged that Wiper nominate his running partner, Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo, for the governorship of Mombasa. Mbogo was disqualified from the contest due to integrity issues, and Sonko wanted Wiper to make the nomination.

Sonko explained that the knowledge that Kenya Kwanza shares his vision for the people was the driving force for his decision to become a member of the coalition.

"We are running out of time, so as the leader of my people, I have had to take some time to sit down and think about what options are available to us. After much consideration, I have determined that the best course of action for me would be to collaborate with a government that not only supports the goals of my people but also offers them tangible benefits "Sonko had remarked.

"I can no longer focus on Sonko; instead, I have to think about the people of Mombasa and the future they face. Because I would not desert my brother, the Honorable Ali Mbogo, who has been victimized by my adversaries, I will also take into consideration his candidacy for one of the open positions "he had added.
