The former president of Cóte d'ivoire Laurent Gbagbo has filed for a divorce against his first lady Simone Gbagbo three days after landing in the country from the Hague, Netherlands.
According to his lawyer Claude Mentenon, former president Laurent filed the divorce at Abidjan's first instance court on Monday after the former first lady Simone constantly refused to consent on a mutually agreed divorce.

Laurent has been at the Hagae for nearly a decade ( 10 years) where he was facing charges on humanity crimes in relation to the 2010 post election violence that left more than 3,000 citizens dead.
The 76 year old president landed at Abidjan International Airport in company of his newly married wife Nady Bamba who is 47 years old. It had been rumoured for years that the former president was in a relationship with the former journalist until July 17 when the two landed together as a couple from Brussels where they had been living together.

The former president had demanded that the former first lady should not be allowed to welcome him at the airport. Simone ignored the demands, she went to the airport to welcome Laurent and he showed no objection.
Laureant nad Simone got married in 1987 and are blessed with two beautiful daughters. Their combined political activism led to the formation of Ivorian Political Front that won in 2,000 after years of opposition. Simone is accused of encouraging Laurent not to accept defeat when he lost in 2010 general elections.
