Yesterday President Samia Suluhu made an impromptu visit to Uganda where she signed a deal with President Museveni that will see the two countries construct an oil pipeline that is perceived to be the longest in the world. Her visit the complete opposite of what her predecessor Magufuli was known for.
An extract from Tanzania Leading Newspaper
Magufuli was known to be economical and hated international trips. It is in records that Magufuli flew out of the country less than five times in his 6 years of presidency. The media two was not allowed to operate without the laid down protocols. Several media outlets and publishing houses were closed down during Magufuli’s time but President Suluhu ordered them to be opened.
Businessmen opposed the government to have their accounts closed and some also went to seek asylum in outside countries. With the change of guard, some have returned to the country and are now applauding the new president encouraging her to promote democracy.
