Looming Trouble For DP Ruto as Three Kisumu Residents File Case Compelling Him to Retire With Uhuru

Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid is in limbo after three residents from Kisumu County file a court case that seeks to compel him to retire from politics alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta after Jubilee administration second term ends.

Addressing the media after filing the case, the three citizens claimed that office of the president and that of the deputy president are inseparable, and that their holders must not seek elections in any of the two offices.

According to a report by KTN News, the concerned individuals also called upon the IEBC and its chairman Wafula Chebukati to deny Kenyans who have retired from government jobs against contesting for any of the elective positions in August.

"We want the court to declare that the office of the president and DP are inseparable, and are one substantive office serving under strictly two terms, and that a retired officer is not eligible to hold a state office. We therefore notify the public that there is a case to be heard before elections are held this terminal election," read part of their statement.

The case will be mentioned on 22nd February 2022.
