In the 2022 general election campaigns, former Laikipia governor Nderitu Mureithi was the chairman of the Azimio La Umoja campaign board, the coalition was drumming up support for Raila Odinga to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta as the fifth president of the republic of Kenya.
Nderitu Mureithi unsuccessfully defended his seat on a Jubilee party ticket on August general elections but former governor Joshua Irungu recaptured his seat through the United Democratic Alliance ticket.
During his tenure as the governor of Laikipia county, the Nyeri court ordered the then governor Mureithi to reinstate medical practitioners whom the county government of Laikipia had sacked but he did not respect the court orders.
The court has asked the former governor to appear before the court on October 13th, 2022 for sentencing, if he is found guilty of disobeying court orders together with the other thirteen people, they will face a 6-month jail each of them.
