Why KNUT Elections May Not Happen as Planned Under The In-Person Attendance

The teachers affiliated to teachers union Knut are preparing for elections on 26th this month. The lists of the deligates per region have been out as per 2019 register. The union opted for this register since this is the last year before members began quitting the union.

The elections that will happen at the Ruaraka Sports Ground in Nairobi is set to either see the vibrant Secretary General Wilson Sossion either go home or retain his seat. The Secretary General's seat has elicited fierce campaigns between the two rival factions of Mr Sossion and Mr Collins Oyuu's team.

Mr Oyuu's team brings on board Mr Stanley Mutai,a fierce neighbour and critic of Mr Sossion. This also brings in Mr Sossion's Deputy Secretary General Mr Hesbon Otieno who one time attempted to overthrow Mr Sossion from the office.

The Knut elections may not happen under In-person voting as expected before. The Covid-19 pandemic has threatened the physical appearance during elections with physical gatherings prohibited.Unfortunately, the union yesterday lost the Bondo Branch Knut Executive Secretary Mr Gilbert Ndolo who succumbed to Covid-19.Sources close to us say that prior to his death,Mr Ndolo was in the campaign team of Mr Collins Oyuu where they met different delegates across the country to drum up support for Mr Oyuu.

Due to the rampant Covid-19 infections, the elections may go virtual istead of the in-person mode.
