Just in: Chebukati Speaks on Claims There Are Plans to Rig August Elections, Makes Clarifications

Wafula Chebukati, chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, has refuted claims of a scheme to rig the August polls.

On Thursday, Chebukati accused certain politicians of propagandizing and urged Kenyans not to be duped.

"I wish to verify that the IEBC is an independent organization. We are not directed by any person, document, or authority. We are only accountable to the Constitution, "he said.

"The IEBC has prepared more than ever before for these elections. We will ensure a transparent process and provide Kenyans with free, fair, and credible elections. This is our obligation to the nation "he stated.

He stated that the IEBC is independent and not influenced by any other institutions.

He stated, "We are not controlled by any individual, constitution, or authority; we just respond to the constitution."

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair also said they will receive the first round of ballots.

The commission's head, Wafula Chebukati, stated during a press conference that the ballot papers will be coming from Greece at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
