Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has reacted to the calls by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition council to have some of their candidates step down in favour of others.
The alliance has resolved to filed only popular candidates in bid to win more seats, and ensure they do not split their votes in favour of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance candidates.
Mutula while speaking to the press in Makueni County on Tuesday, welcomed the idea, saying that the alliance was relying on opinion polls to settle on the best candidates who will face off with their opponents.
On the case of Mathare parliamentary race where Jubilee candidate Singer Bahati Kioko has been told to step down, and join hands in supporting the Orange Democratic Movement candidate Antony Oluoch, Mutula argued that the opinion polls conducted have shown that Oluoch is leading.
He went on to say that the Jubilee Party had not shown interest in defending Bahati for the race, with the Makueni gubernatorial candidate under the Wiper party claiming that Bahati's late entry in to Jubilee party might be the reason he is not getting enough support to be the Azimio candidate.
"I do request Azimio to give Bahati something to do, and I wish to say that if someone cannot win even by getting support, they should allow those popular to run. We do not want to lose the MPs and Senate seats," he said.
