As our Members of County Assemblie continue Passing The Constitutional Amendment Bill (2020), giving it a greenlight to proceed to the next stage, let us not forget by the end of it, I mean after the constitution Shall have passed it is us the common citizens who will feel the heat,we shall have to go extra miles paying for the MPs, Ministers and other officers Salaries.
In 2010,The then minister of Higher Education and the member of parliament Eldoret North Constituency now The Deputy president of the republic of Kenya Hon. Wiliam Ruto led the No campaign against the constitutional changes, one of the reason why Ruto opposed the changes was the additional legislative posts that would cost the common citizen high taxes.
The Yes team finally emerged the winners and the constitution was changed, as usual, for the additional posts the common citizens have been feeling the heat by paying more taxes.
Currently, Kenya is gearing up for another constitutional amendment through the now famous Building Bridges Initiative, the bill has come with different proposal including the expansion of the National Assembly from the current 290 members to 360.
This means the law change will with no doubt oppress the common citizen.
