Kikuyu elders vow to work with both Ruto and his deputy Gachagua.

A day after IEBC announced William Ruto as the president elect, the Kikuyu council of elders have pledged to support President-elect and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking on a press briefing on Tuesday, council chairman Wachira Kiago said they have accepted the IEBC results and urged Kenyans to embrace peace.

He said they will protect the will of the people and urged former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to concede or seek legal redress.

Kiago further said that President Uhuru Kenyatta should enhance the smooth transition of power.He said the council will further continue giving direction to the people of Mt Kenya region.

The elders had endorsed Raila Odinga in the just concluded General elections. Outgoing president William Ruto won the election after meeting the constitutional requirement of getting 50+1% of all valid votes. Raila Odinga who has said he'll challenge Ruto’s win in court came in second in his fifth attempt to become Kenya's president.
