Dr. William Ruto during his inauguration appointed his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, as his peace envoy who will facilitate negotiations in the Horn of Africa and Great Lake. Uhuru had made remarkable efforts by urging Congolese for a third Inter-Congolese dialogue which would bring long-lasting resolution. The meeting was dubbed Nairobi three.
However, on 28th December just a month after the significant progress, Rwanda raised an alarm about the DRC jet fighter which invaded their airspace. Rwanda's administration was concerned that the breakthrough which had been realized might come to a halt after the jet flew into their airspace shortly before returning to DRC.
This would imply a headache to the former head of state since the Kagame administration's underscored that the jet which came into their airspace is against laws and treaties agreed upon during the Nairobi meeting chaired by Uhuru.
"Today’s incident is one in a series of provocations, including a similar airspace violation that occurred on 7 November 2022, when a DRC fighter jet of the same type briefly touched down at Rubavu Airport before flying back to DRC. These repeated violations are against the spirit of Luanda and Nairobi peace initiatives," read the part of the statement.
The airspace violation pose a threat to the progress that had been made by Uhuru Kenyatta.
