IEBC announced its closure of campaign period on Saturday as 2022 general elections in Kenya draw closer to reality.
During the campaigns, politicians and those aspiring used a number of strategies in campaigns to expand their reach which helped them gain popularity to their targeted audiences.
Below are creative ways Kenyan politicians used in 2022 campaigns as campaigns close:
TV and Online Adverts
Though it can be an expensive venture to popularize bid, some politicians find it easier to reach a large group of people all at once through tv and online advertisements.
A good example is the link below when ANC leader Mudavadi campaigned for Presidential candidate Ruto.
Billboards and Posters
They are strategically and widely used in specified location to reach a group of people that widely or frequently migrates from one region to another. This makes them more common in roads.
Face to Face Rallies and Gatherings
This is often a common way of engaging a specific group of people residing in an area. The strategy is more efficient as it gives room for residents of all age groups to listen to you and your agenda. The fact that a politician makes an effort to come to the field increases their chances to meet the locals face to face in the area and earn their trust and loyalty.
Aspiring presidential candidates Ruto and Odinga are good examples of politicians who used this strategy.
Some of the commonly used products included use of t-shirts, cars and boda-boda vests which were branded with a party's color and often had a politician's name or picture in them. This enabled passers by close to see their politically branded products.
Social Media platforms
Source - Twitter
The digital transformation through use of social media platforms such as Twitter, Opera News and FB has enabled politicians to spread their message to different platforms at once.
These platforms also gave them an advantage to have followers in a specific place where they can communicate effectively through online means.
The messages by some of the politicians often asked voters to vote for them.
