A few hours after education cabinet secretary George Magoha confirming excellent exercise in the ongoing process of KCPE examination marking and stating to have reached 35%, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers in Kakamega County have sent a message to him, requesting an increase in their pay rate.

Speaking in the outskirts of the town, led by Kakamega KUPPET secretary-general Harrison Otota and chairman Johnstone Wabuti, the leaders explained that Kenya's economic rate has gone higher and they should be properly served.

"We are asking the Kenya National Examination Council to increase our payment from the earlier Ksh 35 to Ksh 100 per script marking so that the teachers can get the value of their work. Education Cabinet secretary should also note that this year's exams have been done in a very critical environment due to the presence of Covid-19 disease", explained Kakamega KUPPET secretary-general Harrison Otota

Coherently, they've threatened to seize in the turn-up exercise in the marking of the examinations in case the papers aren't decentralized to the counties.

"We are requesting Cs Magoha to allow the marking of the examinations to be done at the County level. He should note the usual marking place which is Nairobi was officially announced to be under lockdown by H.E the President as one way of combating coronavirus", explained the secretary-general.

He continued that;

"Education ministry should be aware that very few examiners are going to turn up in case they won't listen to our claims. They should also note that majority of we teachers will not want to risk their lives to go into the areas we know very well that has been locked because of the high positivity rate of the pandemic", finalized Kakamega County KUPPET secretary-general Harrison Otota

His utterances were seconded by Johnstone Wabuti, chairman of the branch in the county who advised the teachers in the country to check their health status before turning up to Nairobi in case Cs George Magoha will eradicate proper measures to help fight Covid-19 disease.

"I understand that the government may implement new tactics that may help to fight the virus. In case it happens, we are giving directive measures to the teachers that may be assigned for the exercise in case he or she notices the symptoms of Covid-19 disease kindly report to the nearest relevant health office", said Kakamega County KUPPET chairman
