KWS Shoots Down Elephant That Killed 60 Year old man in Makueni

Officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service have shot and killed the elephant said to have killed a 60 year old man in Ngiluni, Kibwezi sub county of Makueni county.

The marauding elephant was traced to Kamunyuni primary school after hours of search by the officers using two choppers.

The elephant trampled and killed the man on 30th December last year as he headed to work early in the morning.

Since the incident happened the residents have been living in fear of being attacked and demanded the elephant to be killed.

Schools in the area too have been registering very few numbers of students since reopening as parents are afraid to let their children go to school while the elephants continue to roam.

Officers from KWS visited the affected area on Tuesday in a bid to talk to the residents but it was all in vain.

The residents stated that there would be no talks unless the killer elephant is done away with first.

Area member of parliament Jessica Mbalu called for the officers to look into the issue as soon as possible so that the people can continue living in peace.

This is due to chronic human-wildlife conflict in the area where wildlife from Chulu and Tsavo national parks invade farms and destroy crops.
