Today, Higher Education Loan Board (HELB) informs their beneficiaries through their official Twitter page that they can repay their loan with 5 Bonga points valued at 1Ksh. Therefore beneficiaries are advised to remit their loans just by redeeming their Bonga points.
For them to redeem they will dial *126# and select Lipa na Bonga. Therefore, Higher Education Loan Board has made easier for them to repay loans with these points on their Sim cards. This is done to avoid high interests and penalty imposed to them upon loan default.
Earlier on, Higher Education Loan Board had given 100% covid-19 waiver to their beneficiaries. This was after a lot of complaints and suggestions from them that they were faced with financial constraints during the pandemic. Thus, making it difficult for them to repay loans faster as expected.
