Higher Education Loans Board(HELB) has announced that it will be disbursing loans to students beginning Thursday, March 18th. In a tweet on its page, the board has finally received funds amounting to Sh 2.8 billion from the treasury and will be issuing to students very soon.
“We have today (Monday) received the financial year 2020/21 quarter three capitation of Sh2.8 billion from the National Treasury. The pending student loan payments are currently being addressed and will be concluded by March 18,” Helb said in a tweet.
According to Helb board Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charles Ringera, no student has received January loan following delay in the disbursement by the National treasury. He added that some have not even received the loans for the past semester.
This comes weeks after students from Moi University demonstrated over the delay of the loans. They complained of lack of funds for management and even complained of starvation.
