Technology and parenting

Technology is the application of scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life or, as it is sometimes phrased, to the change and manipulation of the human environment.

Specifically, digital technologies can often detract from parent-child interactions. As Turkle's research has shown, parents can become distracted and less present with their children because of mobile devices. The aforementioned distracted father is not alone in his mobile obsession.

Parents should be good role models to their children in this digital era so that they can look up to them and Know how to differentiate good and bad.

Parents should set limits to their children especially the young ones and encourage playtime. This will enable the children switch their minds a little bit and not focus on maybe only watching television and playing with gadgets.

Parents should also make their own media use plan this will enable the children know when to be switching off from the media and do other things.

Parents should treat media just like an other living environment and not give it exceptions.

Lastly, parents should value face to face communication and not encourage mobile phone communication with the children.
