Add Your Children To Your NHIF Card This Way

The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) was formed almost 55 years ago by the government of Kenya through the Ministry of Health to cover hospital bills for all registered people once they seek medical attention in a given hospital. This initiative has been so far helpful to many people country wide as they can get treated in hospitals without paying any cash provided that their National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) account is active.

To make your NHIF account active, you are always advised to make contributions every month. If you fail to make contributions for a period of 12 months, then your NHIF account deactivates. You will be forced to pay a fee of Ksh. 1,500 to reactive it so that you can start enjoying the services again.

However, it is advisable that if you have children, you should also include them in your NHIF card to cover them in case they get seek and taken to hospitals. To do this, visit any nearby Huduma centre with their birth certificates or birth notification if the child is below 6 months old. Also carry with you their passport size photos.
