Esther Nyambura shared that she was first diagonised with HIV in 2006 after delivering her first born daughter who turned out positive.Due to the stigma that existed then the doctors did not break the news to her.
In 2009 she gave birth to her second born who tested negative at first but after sometime started ailing of Judice ,rickets and she took her to hospital at Blue house and she tested positive .She did not disclose the news and she took ARVs secretly without letting the husband know.
After realizing how critical the condition was she decided to go to hospital with her whole family. There they were all tested for HIV and they all turned out positive they decided there was no blame game and they all accepted one another as they were.
They all started taking medication and went through the counseling processes. At some point it had become difficult for Esther to accept and she underwent self stigmatization which she says is more dangerous than HIV itself and was admitted in Kenyatta hospital for 3weeks.
The children also were full of questions and were even tired of taking ARVs but she found ways to instill acceptance in them.As a family she says they have come this far out of acceptance and following all medication.
Esther urges all those people who are HIV positive to accept and not to shy taking medicine when its time regardless of where they are because its their life they fight for.HIV does not mean the end of life.
