Kenyans React as This Photo of a Lady Claiming to be HIV Positive Surfaces Online

Many people who are HIV positive have been having difficult times when they share their status to the public to the effects associated with stigma and neglect from family members. As a result, majority of people prefer to keep quiet about it while they suffer deep inside. It is well known that HIV is not a death sentence hence those infected should be strong enough to accept themselves as they are as they take their medication properly while maintaining healthy lifestyle. In the same way, those people who are not infected should accept those infected in the society and let them feel a sense of belonging in the community. The worst thing that has been happening recently is that most people who know that they are infected with the disease plan a revenge mission and end up infecting many others and this has raised concerns in the modern society. The good thing is that some people have come out loud to let everyone know that they are HIV positive and this does not stop them from being successful in life.

A lady identified as Violet Mukabana has been boldly sharing her HIV positive status online and she has been highlighting how she has managed to cope up with the infection. According to her, she does not know how she got infected with the disease but she just tested positive when she was 5 months pregnant. It was hard for her to accept the condition at first when she started taking ARVs and she had moments questioning God why did this happen.

She has tried to commit suicide several times but all these failed terribly. She has been rejected by many boyfriends who were interested in her for dating after knowing her status. At first she had feared to share her story with family and friends due to fear of stigma and rejection but she sought counselling and she is confident and happy about her status. She has accepted herself in the society and if you go through her Facebook posts, you will learn that she is a bold woman who is determined to excel to greater heights. She is now among the few mothers in Kenya raising HIV positive babies and are enjoying their lives to the fullest.

She has taken an extra mile to share her story to a Facebook group dubbed 'Thriving Singles' and she captioned her HIV status to see if she can get more friends on Facebook and if she can empower more women living with HIV to be stronger in this life and learn that despite the challenges, life has to continue and that the future is always luminous.

Kenyans on social media have congratulated her for her bold move in educating people about HIV. Others commented that she has saved many young men who could have tried to shoot their shot at her hence protecting them from being infected.
