You Won't Hold Me At Ransom, Governor Warns His Executive

Busia Governor H.E Sospeter Ojaamong has said his desire to leave a legacy in the remaining 13 months is being hampered by his executive which is not living up to its billing.

Addressing the County Executive Committeee Members, Chief Officers and Directors during regular status report meeting at Busia Agricultural Training Centre on Monday, the Governor said his executive is not performing to his expectation.

" I wanted you to work faster but people are doing zero. Until I

hand over the reigns of power to the incoming governor in October 2022, let's work hard to deliver for the people of Busia County," he said.

H.E Ojaamong said they pushed the National Government to release to counties their equitable share for the financial year ending 30th June, 2021 which it obliged and allowed an extension of two weeks for the absorption of the funds.

" As we strive to pay pending bills for contractors and suppliers who completed their work, I will not entertain officers who hide files for some clients with ulterior motives," he said.

The County Chief took issue with the water department for not giving him convincing reasons why the taps continue to be dry with no drop of water, adding that it will not be business as usual.

He added: "I have given you the budget but I am surprised there is no water with concerned officers failing to give convincing reasons."

He rescheduled the projects status meeting to Wednesday so as to get proper status of projects for the current and next financial year.

The Governor wanted to know the status of three stalled projects in sports , culture and social services including Kakapel Cultural and Nambale Empowerment Centre.

In response, Chief Officer Maurice Odundo said the contractor is already on site with Kakapel project earmarked for completion in January, 2022.

Works on Nambale Y.E.C is also ongoing with the project set for completion by November 2021.
